MOGADISHU (HOL) – Kenya has rescinded its ban on flights to and from Somalia barely a month after it closed its airspace amid an ongoing diplomatic row .

In a letter dated June 10, the Ministry of Foreign  Affairs said it had taken ‘due consideration of intercessions’ and had decided to reopen its airspace to all flights to and from Somalia.

But Kenya noted it hoped that the cancellation of the ban which was to last until August ‘will cause full normalization of relations’, including notably trade.

On this part of trade, Kenya hopes Somalia will lift the ban on khat imports from Kenya by Somalia.

Somalia has remained adamant in the past that resumption of ties does not include the opening of khat trade.
